Initial consultation appointment

The initial consultation is the first step in the garden design process. My role as a designer is to interpret the client’s needs and wishes and turn them into reality.

Please note, Initial consultation is free but enquires outside a 20 mile radius of the Sunderland area would require a small fee of £10 for travel cost. This is refundable where a commission is undertaken.

An outline of the full design service will be explained along with a brief site visit. A portfolio of previous commissions and testimonials are available to view to reassure you of the high standard of service.

Should you decide to commission a garden design a client questionnaire would be posted/faxed and require completion before a design can be undertaken. The questionnaire is simple to complete and allows you to set out your requirements and helps me gain an understanding of your likes and dislikes for the proposed garden area. This information is noted and confirmed in a client brief that simply requires your signature to confirm I have understood your design requirements and you are happy to go ahead.

Site Survey & Soil Test

A site visit of up to 1 ½ hrs is required to record an accurate survey of the site. Existing features are measured along with heights, levels, orientation and shade patterns.  A soil sample is a must to establish soil type and ph.

Outline Sketch

Photographic notes are taken and used to show design ideas for the outline sketch. The sketch will be shown for approval before the design plans are drawn up.

All the information gathered will then be used to form the basis for the scaled garden design.

Axonometric and elevations drawings (3d drawings) are available at small additional cost if required.

A mood board to enhance visuals are also available at a small additional cost if required.

Design process

A scaled A1 size scaled garden design plan will  then be produced and completed along with a detailed planting plan.

This plan is drawn scaled and ready for contractors to work from.

Detailed construction notes are available if required for contractors.
